Bizarre behaviour by a director level officer in Bihar

I am  about to complete two years in Bihar with SWASTH project and had more than hundreds of meetings and discussions  at all levels from CS, DC , PS , DMs, Engineers, mukhiyas and community. But today's meeting with one of the Director of social welfare department will be in memory for very long time. The Director has come to Bihar last year on deputation from central service . I am a big supporter of this move by state govermnent to bring central officers on deputation to Bihar .  These officers basically from Bihar would like to contribute to growing Bihar. What I saw today was a  behaviour not heard of from these officers who choosen to come to Bihar to serve in a professional manner . Their attitude, way of talking all was evident in front of state officials from three department and the external agency from Gujarat. What impression they will take and how the work will move in Bihar. First of all we were informed through a signed letter from ...

40% of under five in India are malnourished

India is growing at the rate of 7 % or more for the last ten years. But where is this growth going ! who is taking benefit out of it ! since the fundamental situation in India has not improved and not near to any of these numbers. Yes offcourse the number of billionaires are growing, number of middle class families are growing. Are we going to follow this model to eradicate poverty by increasing the middle class families. It will take 500 years in that case. Why the govt is not focussing and taking head on the malnutrition, sanitation and health . Per capita expenditure on poverty and health and nutrition is not growing as the the country number is growing. At end what is happening  the head of the country is mere acknowledging the problem of malnutrition. Whose responsibility is to look in to. In 80s the then PM Rajiv Gandhi famous quote stille reververates in  mind that only 10-20  paise out of a ruppes goes to the ultimate user. Why ? whose responsibility  is...

Farmer's community are environment friendly

I have invariably found that those who knows how to produce, knows much better about consumption and disposal. Those who don't know it are very tentative about it. Take the case of farmer's community, they know much better about the harvest and then its consumption and disposal of waste. The percentage of material waste by any farmer community is the minimum. And also the recycling of waste is much more higher. The wastage is highest among city dwellers because of obvious reason of not any connection and knowledge of grassroots about how things are produced.

Young officers needs to shed arrogance

I am quite surprised to see that the new GOI class one officers , young, smart, capable but carrying a huge load of arrogance . How they will deliver with carrying this arrogance . These young officers on which the future of India depends are in fact more arrogant that there seniors. This will stop them from learning the tricks of good governance. Thee British style bureaucracy is in serious danger of delivering. If things are not delivered then who is responsible , no body questions. These officers just deflect the ball to poor politicians. But one thing is sure that in terms of corruption also they will easily ahead of the politicians. Government has to rethink entire system of bureaucracy in India and devised a simple , rsponsive structure of buraecracy which delivers and accounatble for it.

Philosophy made easy

The Philosophy of Erictetus is so simple and understandable that anyone can read and benefit from it. Written some 2500 years ago was a mravel and can be well compared with the comtemporary Buddha writings and Tao writings on virtue, happiness and leading a moralistic life. The verses are simple and also made more simpler by giving examples. It is aptly called "Art of Living". All the verses have same authenticity as it was 2500 years ago meaning that the absolute human thinking have not changed in last 2500 years. Our response to important attributes of life is same. Though we have materially much advance than 2500 years ago. Therefore what matter is our response to the life how we react and how we prepare ourselves to react. prakash

Ushering into year 2012

One of those days, when you want to sit idle for sometime to take a journey back not very distant but from the beginning of this year to close down the curtain to usher in to new year 2012. But this very idea also coincides with the urge to sit back long with friends on a bottle of wine to good bye 2011. Life always presents two options , it depends at a particular moment what prevails. Hope to do both. Overall year 2011 was very productive with lot of hard works. Look forward to implement these in year 2012. Happy new year for wining and reflections .

BIT Mesra reunion

The reunion of BIT Mesra 82 batch was planned at Ranchi from 26-28th December 2011. I attended and enjoyed to the fullest. More than 150 batchmates manage to come to Ranchi with taking time out from their busy schedules. It was one of the best managed alumni meet. Everything was in order. Many participated with their families. Seeing the canteen boy "Bata" after 25 years with bunch of cigarattes packet of all brands in hand. Taking us back to our college days. Bata mind was like a computer in those days he remembers the number of cigarattes taken by all by face, close to 50-60 accounts at a time. His memory was amazing. The other interseting thing was to re-register many of the faces after so many years and also reality check with the face book friends. Due to time constraints I returned one day early but it is worth a life time experience. Thanks goes to Ranchi team.
