How to gain and build Digital Trust is particularly important for the success of any Health IT solutions?

For the success of any digitally enabled health service improvement program the most significant aspect is to gain trust of all stakeholders. The success of the program will be in question if there is lack of commitment of involved stakeholders, it will reduce its outcome and defeat the very purpose of its implementation.

There is ample evidence which suggests that digitization in any field or domain has improved quality of living and saved time in completing day to day tasks of common citizens across the country. It has become part of life. However, it has also instilled fear among citizens due to lack of security, safety and reducing trust in digital applications.

One can see increasing trust gap in all domains of life but lack of trust in digital application will decrease its fast adoption and in delivering intended benefits to improve system and governance. Large scale data breaches, cybercrime, cyber frauds, phishing, cyber bullying etc. are eroding confidence of public in digital applications.

Therefore, it is necessary to take definitive action by technology developers to build trust in digital systems. It is more important for digital programs in Health for enhanced security features where a variety of personal data are stored and at risk of compromise.

The main responsibility lies with the technology developers from the beginning to develop an application/service which will receive respect and trust from the user. The digital solution, development and deployment should keep the user at its center meeting expectations and deliver intended service hassle free. Gaining trust should be part of the strategy and solution from the beginning and service should be measurable on the parameters of trust post implementation.

Smart Nation Journey of Singapore is an example of building digital trust for its citizen and similar initiatives in other countries can layout a policy for the technology developers to build digital solution based on trust and reliability.

Determination of requisite cyber resources to protect trust should be priority of the developers. Security and safety features should be part of design. Security by design and safety by run should be motto of the developers. Safety should be so high that it should prompt people to use DigiTech willingly without any fear of data compromise or cyber fraud.

The key features for any digital IT application should be to meet the user’s expectation and protect all stakeholder’s interest.

-Built in cyber security by design and testing for technology, process, communication

-Safety, confidentiality, and privacy protection to highest level for data and systems

-Inclusive and resilience by design

-encompassing value and ethics of society

-Fulfilling national and international security norms

-Regular monitoring, regular third part audit and publication of report in public domain /sharing with user on various components of application from access to data processing

-Interoperable and integrated with other digital solutions requires more robust privacy and security mechanism to exchange information and its usage.

-Feedback mechanism

By diligently laying down Digital Trust Road map in the beginning will certainly create confidence with user and ultimately trust on the system for its success.
