Keep Humanity and its Values flying during the time of Corona
It reminds me the book of Gabriel Garcia Marquez , " Love in the Time of Cholera". I am sure there will be some compelling love , romance and human touch during Corona time as well.
But largely the Corona time of 2020 is a big shift in terms of human and social interaction for the society. This is true for both who got infected and those taking precaution and safety not to.
The agony for those who got infected is unbearable due to isolation/quarantine and this makes them bereft of seeing their loved ones and also the care providers.
It is slowly instilling a strong sense of alienation, depression and mental agony. People are not getting the food for heart through human interaction , touching , talking, seeing and feeling.
The life is more difficult for those under treatment in hospitals ,slowly getting robotic and mechanical and becoming getting a untouchable thing .
The human touch is missing and it is frightening them to their core.
The corona fear is not only limited to the isolation ward and getting fine after the treatment but it is haunting them when they are back to family and trying to start normal life. They are being stigmatized and people with fear or lack of knowledge is spreading rumor that they still have potential to infect. it is so sad.
It is being seen in all walks of life, but it is more painful when they need support for hospitalization or die fighting this contagious disease and there is complete silence and fear in providing that support to take them to hospital or in case of death to cremate the dead body.
It looks like the India of 18th or early 19th century when society was fearful of cholera/TB/leprosy and other heavily contagious diseases. That time it was ignorance , lack of knowledge, lack of resources, illiteracy and in general a feudal and unequal society. But it is strange that the same thing is happening in the 21st century with same story but only changes in its presentation from black & white to color.
Amitabh Bacchan Ji has put so nicely in his blog from Nanavati hospital.
We as a society needs to understand that this is an emergency situation and like health warriors every society, community and family needs a local warrior to help those in need from basic necessity to help in getting medicines, hospitalization and in extreme circumstances for last rites in this pressing time. Needless to say with adopting proper precaution and safety.
The community has become very apprehensive , fearful and frightened but also the sense of acceptance and trust is growing day by day, which is a positive sign in this battle of corona and like many other it will be also won.
Fighting corona with keeping the human value and humanity intact should be our goal and motto.
